3rd Annual WalkathonThe Power of 10 Challenge

The PTA is proud to announce our 3rd Annual Walkathon.  The Walkathon is going to take place on November 6, 2009.   This year we are challenging every student to rise to “The Power of 10 Challenge”. If every student asks 10 people for $10, our wonderful even could raise almost $50,000! This amount of $100 per student will help the school in so many ways.   The teachers need the tools and resources to help the children “shine” as brightly as possible. There will be several different ways to earn donations. Below is an explanation for each way. All checks should be made payable to the Shiloh Charter PTA.

Stamp Donations:To help make the walkathon as successful as possible we really need the following items:

  1. Stamps
  2. $10 Donation and the PTA will purchase the items that we need.

Please send these items in with your children. They will be collected from the teachers in the morningThe students providing the donation will be given a treat!

Address Mailing:

The PTA is asking for at least 10 addresses of friends and family. Please send in the addresses on the address labels provided by the PTA. The address labels will be sent home the week of September 15th. We will then send a letter to those addresses on behalf of your student(s). Each letter that is mailed will contain a donation form and a self-addressed stamped envelope to mail back to the school. Your child may earn prizes based on the amount of donations that he/she has raised. If you have more than one child attending Shiloh Charter School, each address submitted will count for each of your children. Every donation that is returned to Shiloh Charter will be counted towards your child’s total fundraising amount that may be used to earn him/her a prize. This will be a flat donation, not a donation per lap. For every 10 addresses your student turns in, they will receive a "Blue Jean Pass." To download the pledge form, click here. You can download and email this pledge form to friends and family in addition to turning in 10 addresses.

Donation Envelope:

The PTA will also be sending home a donation packet for people that do not wish to turn in a list of addresses or that missed someone’s address. The donation packet will be sent home at the end of September. You will personally be able to take this donation packet to your friends, work place and family to collect cash or check donations as well. This will be flat donation, not a donation per lap.

T-Shirt Sponsorship:

We will be printing the names of business’s that donate at least $250 on the back of each shirt.  We encourage you to find business willing to donate $250 to earn a spot on the back of the T-shirt with their company name (no logos) printed on it. If the business does not wish to donate $250, any donation will be very much appreciated. If there are any questions, please contact the PTA at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.  President Obama's Webcast

President Barack Obama to Make Historic Speech to America’s Students
C-SPAN and White House Web Site to Broadcast Speech Live

Reference: U.S. Department of Education - www.ed.gov

At 12:00 p.m., Eastern Time (ET), September 8, 2009, President Barack Obama will deliver a national address to the students of America. During this special address, the president will speak directly to the nation’s children and youth about persisting and succeeding in school. The president will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning.

The U.S. Department of Education invites students of all ages, teachers, and administrators to participate in this historic moment by watching the president deliver the address, which will be broadcast live on the White House Web site (http://www.whitehouse.gov/live/) and on C-SPAN at 12:00 p.m., ET. We also encourage educators to use this moment to help students get focused and inspired to begin the new academic year. The Department of Education offers educators a menu of classroom activities—created by its teachers-in-residence, the Teaching Ambassador Fellows—to help engage students in the address and stimulate classroom discussions about the importance of education.

Change in Student Pickup Procedures

We had a GREAT first day of school. We realize that our pickup procedure took too long because of the large number of vehicles. We will use the following procedure beginning Wednesday, August 26th. Our first priority is always the safety of our children, so thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Dismissal for Kindergarten through 5th grade is at 2:30 pm

Dismissal for Middle School (6th and 7th grades) is at 3:00 pm

Cars will not be allowed into our campus before 2:30 pm for the safety of our students.

All vehicles will still enter our campus only through Franklin. We will have 2 lanes. The right lane will be for Kindergarten through 1st grade, their siblings and students, who carpool with them. The left lane will be for 2nd through 5th grade students.

Kindergarten and 1st grade students, their siblings and students, who carpool with them, will be dismissed on the West side of the Sanctuary (across from the Preschool building). This is the right lane. These vehicles will exit through Terrace Drive only.

2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be picked up on the sidewalk in front of the gym. This will be the Left lane. These vehicles will exit only through Cason.

Middle School students will be dismissed at 3:00 pm on the sidewalk in front of the gym. Middle School students will be picked up on their campus when we are cleared to move into the portables. This move is scheduled within 2 weeks.

Again, thanks for your understanding and if you have any questions or concerns, please call me at 813-707-1060.
